The St. Ninian’s One World Group was formed as the Third World Group by Fr Jock Dalrymple in 1976 and continues its work. It is now known as the One World Group and has Scottish Charitable Status. At the present time the group has 11 members and meets fortnightly from September to December and January to June. New members are always welcome.
The One World Group, as part of the parish, supports those in need at home and in other parts of the world through prayer, raising awareness and fund raising. The first funds, £1,000, raised in 1978, were sent to SCIAF’s Bauchi Project. Each year since 1985 the One World Group have led the parish’s May Appeal; a month of prayer and fundraising for selected projects. The 2015 May Appeal raised £4,000 for Let the Children Live, Edinburgh Cyrenians and the Shockingly Easy Defibrillator Campaign. A regular event each year is the Carol Singing at Morrison’s for CHAS in December. The group holds Open Evenings with invited speakers and undertakes other fundraising events during the year.
